Role
The Summer Research Analysis student will:
-Gather, compile, input and reformat data from several sources
-Develop methods to compare various measurements by cultivar and location and identify trends
Integrate new data such as weather records to explain anomalies in the data
-Develop better data recording and formatting methods to improve our ability to collect, record and analyze the data in the future
-Compile records, prepare spreadsheets, presentations and reports for the farmer and OHA
-Administrative and support duties to support the needs of the associations

Experience & Skills Required
The successful applicant will have a demonstrated ability to:
-Work on their own as well as within a team,
-Pay attention to detail and demonstrate thoroughness in their work,
-Manipulate, organize and record data
-Analyze data with many variables and identify trends

Ideally, the Summer Research student will:
-Have an educational interest in horticulture, agriculture, sciences, math, statistics, computer science or
business.
-Possess a valid Ontario driver’s license.

We believe that the Summer Researcher role would be an ideal fit for a number of academic fields. Students would gain substantial direct experience in research processes for a novel crop, but also in research methodology. Students from a general sciences background, would gain experience in applied science and applied research. The analysis of measured and observed data from the field, in uncontrollable environments – with weather and disease etc. – would showcase the challenges of field research. In addition, students from a business studies background might find the first-hand experience in the development of a new industry enlightening. We are attempting to introduce a new high-value crop into Ontario agriculture, which would be of interest to business and economics students.
