LEADS Intake Announced

The next intake of the Lake Erie Agriculture Demonstrating Sustainability (LEADS) program has been announced. The intake period will open January 20th. Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis until the budget is fully allocated.

There are a variety of farm projects that can be undertaken for producers and processors. Including but not limited to:

Producers

Financial analysis up to $2,500

Business plans up to $10,000

Marketing plans up to $15,000

Wind breaks up to $10,000

Nutrient management and soil health up to $10,000

Labour productivity planning up to $15,000

Food safety analysis up to $2,000

Processor

Establishing cleaning and disinfecting practices up to $50,000

Farm Resources in Under an Hour Series. Session 1- Training and Hiring Incentives for Farmers

The OHA is hosting the first virtual session of our Farm Resources in Under an Hour Series.

This session will be taking place on Friday December 18th, 2020 from 12:00 pm to 12:45 pm. So grab your lunch, sit down, tune in and listen to some great information on training and hiring incentives for farmers!

During this session Susan DeRoo will be joining us from the Multi-service Centre in Tillsonburg, Ontario. She will be speaking about training and hiring incentives with working with youth. During this 45 minute session, we will also have another speaker that will be discussing federal hiring incentives and how to apply.

This event will be free for OHA members and only $15 for non-members.

Job Posting: Administrative Coordinator

The Ontario Hazelnut Association is seeking a responsible Administrative Coordinator to perform a variety of administrative and bookkeeping tasks. Duties of the Administrative Coordinator include providing support to our Board of Directors and assisting in the operations and activities of the association. The Administrative Coordinator will work independently and as a team member to perform a wide variety of administrative tasks that will contribute to the efficient and professional operation of the Association. https://www.ontariohazelnuts.com/. This position is an 8-month contract funded through Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada through the Youth Employment Skills Program. You must be 30 years of age or younger.

Summer Research Students - Agriculture Technician Positions

The Ontario Hazelnut Association (“OHA”) is looking for eager and enthusiastic summer students for work on research farms including data collection and scouting at various locations in Ontario.

The OHA is helping to spearhead the development of a hazelnut industry in Ontario by working with researchers, government, producers, and processors across the province. The students will be directly involved in the efforts.

The Summer Research student (Agriculture Technician Positions) will provide critical support to the development of the hazelnut industry in Ontario. The Summer Research student role will involve both infield work as well as data collection and analysis. The role is intended to be a full time under the CSJ program rules.

Role
The Summer Research Analysis student will:
-Gather, compile, input and reformat data from several sources
-Develop methods to compare various measurements by cultivar and location and identify trends
Integrate new data such as weather records to explain anomalies in the data
-Develop better data recording and formatting methods to improve our ability to collect, record and analyze the data in the future
-Compile records, prepare spreadsheets, presentations and reports for the farmer and OHA
-Administrative and support duties to support the needs of the associations
